c.1890. One of three designs in the Watts’ archives commissioned for Sir John Ninian Comper by M. Perkins & Sons, Comper Cathedral is an intricate silk damask of stylised British flowers and foliage with a pine cone at its centre, symbolising regeneration and enlightenment. Woven on natural ground, this heritage design is truly glorious.
