Drawn from encaustic tiled walling at St Giles, Cheadle, justifiably considered to be the finest of all the churches built by the celebrated 19 th century architect and designer AWN Pugin. The emphatic serpentine sarum red river flowing strongly from left to right appears as the backdrop to slightly wild foliage dancing across the surface, defying the formality of the serious serried ranks of Fleur de Lys. Woven as an épinglé velvet the Drummond is a large and powerful decorative textile, with carpet like characteristics.
