Malvern Mayfair
c.1889. Originally a fifteenth century Flemish textile pattern, this dramatic design was redrawn by pioneering architect and Watts founder G. F. Bodley in 1889. A very large, starkly contrasting floral design, stylised thistle flowers lace magnificently upwards in shining silk. The head of the thistle is woven in particularly wonderful detail in tiny acorn shaped stitches.
