Celebrating Milan Design Week in Style. A creative Journey with Watts 1874

Every year in April, the heart of Milan transforms into something beyond a city : it becomes the center of creativity and design, a living atelier with presentations and exhibitions in the most outstanding places. During Milan Design Week, its streets, courtyards, palazzi and interiors form a landscape where creative ideas circulate with rare intensity. The ultimate pilgrimage site for design lovers and interior insiders.

For Watts 1874’s team, this year’s visit was a discovery. A journey celebrating how European influences have shaped our history. The team followed Watts1874’s founder’s vision, travelling around the continent, in search for beauty and inspiration.

Watts1874’s team engaged in a series of encounters that extended far beyond the exhibition halls. Conversations unfolded with partners old and new, reaffirming a shared commitment to craftsmanship and the enduring relevance of decorative arts within contemporary design.

Alongside these exchanges, Watts 1874 presented a curated selection of its most iconic designs : pieces drawn from its extensive archives, yet continuously reinterpreted through the lens of modern interiors. These works, grounded in history, revealed their versatility within Milan’s forward-looking creative atmosphere.

Moving through the city, walking past neoclassical façades, historical palazzi, discreet courtyards and richly textured interiors, the team found inspiration and influences in the subtle interplay of time and style. Milan’s unique ability to navigate between architectural rigour and sensuality, tradition and modernity, continues to define its role as a global design capital and perfectly resonates with Watts1874’s identity.

Among the week’s defining moments was the visit to the Moncler showroom, a recently completed Watts 1874 project. Here, the Maison’s expertise finds expression in a contemporary environment with its iconic fabrics: Rialto in Ivory and Arabesque Francis in Ebony Caramel. The space stands as a reflection of the brand’s philosophy: celebrating tradition and heritage while creating the most beautiful interiors for contemporary spaces.

Another visit took the team towards potential high-end residential projects. Eric Eagan, founder of L’Artigianoto studio, celebrates and preserve Italy’s rich artisanal craftsmanship, driven by a passion for design history and a keen eye for the contemporary, creating interiors that feel both timeless and relevant, blending tradition with modern sophistication.

Beyond the fair, Milan itself became a source of inspiration. From architectural details to the rhythm of daily life, the city revealed its fascinating ability to merge past and present with timeless elegance, a philosophy that resonate with our spirit. Unexpected poetry was also found around the corner. The key attraction being the Arket installation, a whimsical merry-go-round with giant fruits set within the city, offering a striking contrast to the surrounding architecture, capturing the spirit of design as both joyful and immersive.

As a British Heritage brand with an international presence, Watts1874 closely observed design and its constantly creative evolution.
