Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury

c.1845 A complex and bold design, this was commissioned from Augustus Pugin (who famously designed the furniture for Westminster Palace) by his prominent patron the Earl of Shrewsbury, for Ingestre Hall. Stylized daffodils open their leafy petals and spread their pollen, encircled by ogee arches in this geometric floral. In gold on a bed of vibrant blue, this soft wool silk is warm and elegant.
