Shrewsbury Holmdale

Shrewsbury Holmdale

Shrewsbury Holmdale

c.1845 A complex and bold design, this was commissioned from Augustus Pugin (who famously designed the furniture for Westminster Palace) by his prominent patron the Earl of Shrewsbury, for Ingestre Hall. Stylized daffodils open their leafy petals and spread their pollen, encircled by ogee arches in this geometric floral. In copper orange on a bed of soft natural ground, this soft wool silk is warm and elegant.
