Hewell Grange

c.1875 This chenille was specially designed for Hewell Grange, one of the most important British houses of the late 19th century, by leading architects and founders of Watts G. F. Bodley and Thomas Garner. Originally a cut velvet for the upholstery of chairs, this very strong design is characteristic of Jacobean interiors. Woven for Elton John in a woolen silk, it is charismatic in ebony green against a thickly woven bed of flaxen taupe.
