c.1790 Taken from an altar frontal from Castle Howard, where this was a pearl pink damask with contrasting embroidered decorative leaf detail, this starkly defined woven silk chenille is perfect for upholstery. Deep purple chenille leaves curl like rolling waves between budding flowers on a gold silk ground, in which delicate ferns are just visible.
