Bruges Chimay

Bruges Chimay

Bruges Chimay

c.1790 Taken from an altar frontal from Castle Howard, where this was a pearl pink damask with contrasting embroidered decorative leaf detail, this starkly defined woven silk wool mix is perfect for upholstery. In the Bruges Chimay the design is inverted so that diagonally woven pale gold and blue-grey leaves curl like rolling waves between budding flowers on a silken brown ground, in which delicate fern leaves are just visible.
