Design Provenance: Mid-late 18th Century. A suite of six Aubusson tapestries, Permanent collection of the museum of the Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie
This suite of six vibrant tapestries was created by Étienne Jeaurat (1699-1789), custodian to the King’s collection of paintings at Versailles. Based on the narrative composed by the Greek poet Longus in the second century A.D., this Tableau Scénique follows the triumphs and tragedies of two young lovers, Daphnis and Chloe.
Unveiling a dazzling cast of rich jewel colours and deep half tones in its thick cotton pile, our velvet substrate is certainly our most luxurious. Wonderful as either heavy, rippling drapery or truly extravagant upholstery, with a high rub count, our velvet Tableaux Scéniques are perfect for both domestic and contract use.
