c.1895 A Byzantine design by origin, this lovely floral tapestry was re-drawn by leading Gothic Revival architect and designer and founder of Watts, G. F.Bodley, in 1895 for an embroidered cope for Father Benson, founder of the Cowley Fathers. The original cope is on permanent display in the Elizabeth Hoare Collection of Embroidery at Liverpool Cathedral. This stylized floral design is dazzling in jewel crimson, dusky blue and pink, apple green, bronze and gold woven silk.
