Bellini Giles
c.1850 The origin of this stylized geometric floral has been traced to a tapestry in Early Flemish painter Roger van der Weyden’s “Madonna And Saints” (c.1450). It was adapted by Augustus Pugin into a wallpaper during his collaboration with John Gregory Crace (whom he had also worked with for the Houses of Parliament) on the decoration of the great Victorian Abney Hall in Cheshire in the 1850s.
